DAN WITH KEVIN DAVEY ON SET
February's Dog Directed by Candace Gonzalez and created by Paul J. Chinook, will be in Alberta theatres this year. Stay tuned for the trailer.
February’s Dog takes place in Alberta in modern time and is set against the beautiful and iconic back drop of the Canadian Rocky Mountains under a shroud of winter snow.
It follows 2 uniquely different, yet typical men. Dale Walters is a very charismatic and lighthearted man that works hard to enjoy a life of adventure and excitement. Nigel Loggins is a military veteran that is quiet and calculated in his approach towards life. The film opens with these two men as they are finishing up work on a Friday. They get called into the office at the end of the day and are laid off by their boss Arthur Newbury; a very clean cut, to the point, middle aged manager. They are told abruptly by Arthur that this is just temporary, and that they will be back at work in 3 months as soon as market oil prices recover.
Dale and Nigel leave and begin their own unique journeys in the world of unemployment. The Alberta economy turns very bad and the downturn lasts longer than anyone anticipated. .
Tell us about your role in February's Dog
I play Pastor Frank, a local minister who Dale comes to for advice.
DAN with CREATOR Paul J. Chinook
What was your first feeling about your character when reading the script?!
Frank is a down to earth kind of guy who, aside from being a pastor, also participates in community events with his congregation and neighbours. He's a true member of the community who cares about these people.
What was your experience on set like?
I enjoyed it very much. It was a comfortable place to be. The cast and crew were great.
What do you think audiences will think of the film?
I think they will really relate to the film. Times are tough right now and people will identify with the challenges faced by the characters in the film.

DAN WITH MARIANNE HUTCHINGS ON SET
What is your advice for new artists/actors?
Meet as many people as you can. Join Facebook pages for actors in your area. Consider joining CSIF and attend actors clubs. Make your own films, even if very simple. All of these things will get you started.
What hobby do you have that you think helped you with your role?!
I am a filmmaker myself in Calgary, AB, so that background helps me on set as I understand what happens on both sides of the camera.
What actors are you inspired by?
I think Ewan McGregor is very good - I worked with him on Fargo. He's very versatile. Heath Ledger was amazing - so sad we lost him so young.
When did you first get into film and TV/ the arts?
My first credited role was on Brokeback Mountain. I played a bartender. Working with Ang Lee and Jake Gyllenhaal was a fantastic experience.
What do you have coming up for 2020 in your life/career?!
Look for me as "Raw Dog" on Jann Arden's sitcom, "Jann". I will also be shooting and releasing new "High Strung" episodes.
